As producers of organic baby food for over 100 years now, we have always endeavoured to make our products just that much better. We have progressed one big step forward in our efforts: from now on, we will be producing our start-up and follow-on milks from organic milk produced in the Allgäu. The milk comes from organic farms in the districts of Oberallgäu, Ostallgäu, Kempten, Unterallgäu and Westallgäu. Small amounts of organic milk (up to a maximum of 5%) may come from the neighbouring vicinity of Landsberg am Lech.
Why is this so important to us?
As an organic enterprise, we attach great value to fair and respectful treatment of nature, be it animals or plants. In addition, we set great store by products that are as regional as possible. This guarantees short transport routes for raw materials and close contact to dairies and farmers. At the same time of course, we maintain fair dealings with our suppliers and make sure the quality of the milk is acceptable.
Clean, clear air, high mountains and luscious green meadows is what epitomises the Allgäu. But also tradition coupled with cutting edge technology and know-how makes the location of the Allgäu a very special one. The organic milk comes from small, family-run organic farms. The cows are free-roaming, and provided the weather in the Allgäu permits, they spend their time grazing in the meadows. Fodder free of genetic modification and a ban on meat and bone meal go without saying.
But why only NOW – what happened before?
We have always used organic milk from the region. This milk came from the Allgäu, the Lake Constance region, Upper Swabia, Upper Bavaria and from our neighbours in Austria. A separation of milk deliveries according to regions was not possible.
And NOW we have succeeded in procuring our milk for the future exclusively from the Allgäu region.
Organic skim milk from the Allgäu is the main ingredient of our baby milks. Since not all the raw materials we require for our baby milk are grown in the Allgäu or at least in sufficient quantities, we are not able to obtain all the ingredients from our region. One of these raw materials is, for example, organic whey powder that we use in our organic start-up and follow-on milks. Here, too, we try our best to work together with suppliers in the surrounding area. It therefore comes chiefly from Bavaria and Austria – simply from our neighbours.
