Proper dental care for babies

In your baby's life, a new, exciting development phase has occurred: the first tooth has emerged.
You should start taking care of your baby's teeth right away because carbohydrates in breast milk and baby food can lead to the development of caries in milk teeth.

Dental care begins even before the first tooth appears

With a saliva-free finger cot made of soft cotton fiber, you can get your baby used to dental care before the first teeth appear. We also recommend a learning toothbrush that has small nubs instead of bristles.

When the first tooth appears ...

  1. If you recognize the first signs of a tooth eruption, you can gently massage the area with your finger. If the first white point breaks through later, a cotton swab or a soft cloth can be helpful. Tooth gel is not yet necessary at this point.
  2. If you can see the whole tooth, brush it with a small amount of tooth gel twice a day. Here you should only use tooth gel suitable for milk teeth or plant-based, such as the flouride-free Töpfer tooth gel with silica, bran and marigold.
  3. Always brush gently from red to white - from the gum to the tooth.

So that tooth decay doesn't stand a chance

  • Brush your teeth twice a day, especially in the evening before going to bed.
  • Don't let your baby suckle the bottle all the time! The constant rinsing of the teeth, even with sugar-free liquids, damages the tooth enamel.
  • If possible, give water or tea to drink instead of sweet juices.
  • In consultation with the pediatrician, fluoride tablets can help strengthen the tooth substance. Caution: Do not use tooth gel containing fluoride at the same time, otherwise there is a risk of overdosing.
  • Don't give your child anything that you previously had in your mouth. In this way, caries pathogens will not spread to your child's oral flora.
